The name Terre del Marchesato
is bound to Bolgheri history and to my family history.
Our wines are the expression of these two histories.
Fattoria Terre del Marchesato is a small family run winery I manage with my wife Giovanna and our three sons. Our vineyards are located right in the hearth of the best area in Bolgheri, bordering the most prestigious estates where the great wines of Bolgheri such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia and Guado al Tasso are produced.
Our territory has an ancient historical background where gentry and peasant sharecropping have often coexisted and worked together. Terre del Marchesato is named after a Marquises owner of our land earlier than 1954 therefore framing a piece of this history. Converted definitively in a winery in 1998, we joined from the beginning the DOC Bolgheri, designation representing the entity with the duty to preserve and protect integrity of our Terroir now considered one of the most vocated in the world for high quality wine production.
Aiming to carve out a small but remarkable niche beside the best producers in Bolgheri, from the very beginning we have endeavoured to pursue excellence to make our wines ambassadors of unique terroir and identity of tradition and our family history.
Being placed in a prestigious area is still not enough to make great wines. There is something personal to be added. Our company builds on the family background as a complex but balanced melange of many factors thus giving wines typical and unique at the same time.
Based on patient and mindful peasant artisanship handed down by generations, we moved towards viticulture with a natural and human-shaped approach, “blend” of family love, passion, heart, innovation and constant quality research carried on avoiding concessions, vintage by vintage, in all details.
Maybe that is right our secret you can breathe and sense all over in Terre del Marchesato, starting with the vineyards: about sixteen hectares of well-tended rows, manicured like a garden, worked in respect of climate and soil enhancing and protecting the natural quality of the grape till harvest.
It goes without saying we only grow those grape varieties able to use and optimize the peculiarity of this location, then white autochthon Vermentino and red bordelaise grape as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot giving us a production much appreciated both in Italy and abroad.
Our produce range is varied and comprehensive, reflecting Terre del Marchesato individuality. Indeed our production features some typical Bordeaux-style blend but it is mostly focused on single varieties wines where, a fortiori, no mistakes nor concessions are acceptable, while aiming to quality: from vineyard to cellar grapes, as primary product, need to be worked with the highest care and know-how.
